The Patek Philippe Aquanaut Chronograph Ref. 5968A-001 is a landmark reference in the Aquanaut collection — the first time Patek Philippe incorporated a flyback chronograph into the Aquanaut line, bringing one of the Maison's most demanding complications into its most sport-oriented family. This 2019 example in stainless steel with orange strap represents the reference in its original and most sought-after configuration.

The black embossed dial is executed in the Aquanaut's signature checkerboard pattern — the raised square texture covering the entire dial surface in a tone that shifts between deep charcoal and warm black depending on the light. Against this, white Arabic numerals fill the hour positions with bold sports-watch legibility, while the bright orange chronograph hands and subdial markers provide the colour accent that defines this reference's character. The large 60-minute chronograph counter at 6 o'clock is the centrepiece of the dial — executed as a single-register flyback counter that allows the timing to be reset and restarted with a single push, a level of chronograph sophistication that is rare even at Patek Philippe's level. Date display at 3 o'clock. The combination of black, white, and orange is one of the most purposeful and coherent dial compositions in the modern Aquanaut range.
